Amateur Astronomy 101 Will Be an Onsite Camp All Week

Our summer camp for students 11 and older has been cleared to run in person all week long, rather than as a mix of in-person and online sessions. The camp is set for July 27 to 31, meeting from 1 to 2 pm at the Planetarium.

A telescope will be checked out to each student on Monday so they can observe the night skies at home throughout the week. They will also receive a planesphere to help them locate stars and constellations and a log book to record their observations. Telescopes must be returned on Friday, but the other items are theirs to keep.

The camp is led by Rod Kennedy, the incoming Planetarium Supervisor. Rod is an avid sky-watcher who has many years of experience to share with students, as well as a great sense of humor that’s sure to make the camp fun for everyone. The cost is just $15 per camper, but because of the limited number of telescopes available, this camp is restricted to just 8 students.
